Navigation is the sophisticated art of not needing to convince yourself you intended to get somewhere, even if you were lost three tree stands ago. Strategically choosing which right turns make the least adventurous stories.

It is about reference points and feedback.  This is via a map, Geographic Position System, Star, or Compass, etcetera.

Techniques are often overlayed and used in tandem and below are some key words and definitions for the language.

Bearing: A direction measured from north or south toward east or west, expressed in degrees (e.g., N 45° E).
Azimuth: A direction measured clockwise in degrees from north, from 0° to 360°.
Declination: The angle difference between true north and magnetic north at a specific location.
Advanced compassing: Using precise compass techniques and corrections (declination, back bearings, triangulation) for accurate navigation.
UTM Universal Transverse Mercator: A coordinate system that divides the Earth into zones using meters for precise location.
OBM Orienteering Bearing Method: A navigation technique that follows a set compass bearing between known points.
Compassing and orienting: Aligning a map and compass to determine direction and position on the ground.
LiDAR: A remote-sensing method that uses laser pulses to measure distances and map terrain in high detail.
Geospatial: Relating to data that is tied to specific locations on Earth.
